A stranger's 12-step apology made me rethink my grudges
I was waiting for a bus on Market Street in San Francisco when this guy starts talking loudly on his phone, apologizing to someone he'd ghosted for 7 years. He listed every dumb excuse he'd used, from "I was busy" to "I lost your number." It hit me that I've been holding onto a friendship that ended over a $40 borrowed tool I never got back. That apology wasn't mine to accept, but it made me ask, what's heavier, the debt or the weight of keeping score? Anyone else ever let go of a grudge after hearing someone else's messy confession?
