Tbh, what if @taylor.reese's confidence comes from trusting those random picks? Maybe the page flip test is meant to be chaotic, not controlled.

Man, hearing about the page flip test makes me laugh because I tried it once and it was a disaster. I thought I could be cool and pick a book based on a random page, but my instincts are worse than Victor's. I ended up with some old cookbook from the 70s, and let me tell you, the recipes were all jello and mystery meat. I mean, who flips to a page about aspic and thinks, yes, this is my next read? So much for trusting chaos, it just left me hungry and confused. I guess if your confidence comes from that, more power to you, but I'll pass.

Seriously, the page flip test is brutal for me because I always end up judging a book by its cover, getting distracted by pictures or font. Last time I tried it, I picked a book based on a cool chapter title and it turned out to be a dense philosophy text. @taylor.reese makes it sound so easy, but my instincts are permanently broken. I've given up on using it for anything important, like choosing what to read next, since it's led to too many unfinished books. Maybe I need a page flip test for the page flip test, you know?
