Tried organizing my toolbox with foam cutouts. Took 4 hours for one drawer.
I always thought foam tool organizers looked cool and figured they'd save me time digging for wrenches. But I spent a whole Sunday cutting out custom slots for just my ratchet set. By the time I was done, I realized it's not practical if you swap tools around much. It looks nice but I'm not doing that for the other three drawers. Anyone else ditch the foam after trying it?

Man I feel your pain, that foam cutting is a whole day project you can't get back. Spent a full Saturday doing one drawer for my socket set and by the time I was done my back hurt from leaning over the counter. I ended up tossing the foam out after a couple months because I kept buying new tools and didn't want to cut new slots every time.

Yeah the back pain alone makes it not worth it, my back was killing me too.

Actually the foam cutting thing is a bit different from just regular back pain from standing too long, you're leaning and pressing down at weird angles which hits different muscle groups. I have a buddy who swears by using a hot knife instead of a utility blade cause you don't have to push down as hard, less strain on your lower back and shoulders. But even with that foam dust gets everywhere and you still gotta hunch over the table for hours if you're doing a full drawer layout like that socket set. The real trick is raising the work surface up to chest height so you're not bent over at all, totally changes the game.
