Turning down the corner office to start from scratch
I was lined up for a comfortable management role but passed to open my own small business. One side says stability is everything, while the other argues real change needs a leap. What's your view on safe careers versus risky moves?

Wait, nobody's saying how each choice traps you in different ways... That corner office means answering to others forever, stuck in meetings about things you don't care about. But running your own shop? You're suddenly answering to every customer and bill, maybe working more hours than you ever did for a boss. The "safe" job can feel like a slow prison, while the "leap" can just build a different cage you own. It's less about risk versus safety and more about which set of problems you'd rather live with every single day.

Sometimes we build up these career choices into life-or-death moments. From what I've seen, most jobs aren't as stable as they look, and many new businesses don't last. Your mileage may vary, but taking a risk can teach you things a safe role never would. Then again, calling it a 'leap' might be overstating it; lots of people start small without burning bridges. Take this with a grain of salt, but both paths can work out fine depending on the person. The real change might just be in how you see your work, not the title on the door.

Yeah like blake_perry5 said, calling it a 'leap' might be overstating it. Most choices aren't that serious in the long run lol.
