After my surprise party flopped, I believe they're a bad tradition.

They create unnecessary stress and rarely live up to the hype.

Plot twist, the surprise is usually for the hosts when they see your real reaction.

Wait, so the hosts are watching you to see if you react right? That's even worse. It turns a nice moment into a performance review. You have to switch from shocked to happy in half a second or you let everyone down. All that work just to make someone feel judged on the spot. Honestly the whole thing sets everyone up to fail.
