That moment I realized the "clean as you go" thing actually makes sense

I always thought that advice was just something neat freaks say. But last week I was making dinner and had a sink full of dishes by the time the food was done. Took me 45 minutes to clean up after eating. Next night I tried washing stuff while the onions were cooking and between steps. Whole cleanup after dinner took maybe 10 minutes. Felt like I discovered fire or something. Why did nobody tell me the math on that works out so different? Has anyone else had a basic kitchen habit click way later than it should have?

Washing the colander right after draining pasta was my big one... saved me so much scrubbing time.

Haha yep, that's a classic! I always used to let my colander sit in the sink until it was a dried-on concrete nightmare. Now I rinse it the second the pasta hits the strainer and it's like magic. Honestly, I feel like half of adulting is just learning that if you don't do the thing right now, future you is gonna be really, really mad about it.

Oh man, the colander thing is so true! It's funny how that "clean as you go" habit really is just about realizing that small bits of work spread out feel like nothing, while one big pile feels like a mountain. I think that same idea applies to a lot of stuff like doing laundry or even answering emails. You either spend two minutes here and there, or you face an hour long slog that makes you want to quit. What's a chore you finally figured out a simple hack for?
