Vent: Spent 3 hours fixing a loose hinge because I refused to read the instructions

I bought a new kitchen cabinet set from Home Depot last Saturday and the hinge on one door just wouldn't stay tight. I figured I knew how hinges work, so I spent a full 3 hours messing with screwdrivers and washers trying to get it right. Every time I closed the door it would sag and rub against the frame. Finally I gave in and looked at the stupid paper that came with it. Turns out there's a little plastic clip inside the hinge that needs to be snapped into place first. I felt like an absolute fool when I saw the diagram. So what I learned is that my pride cost me a whole afternoon and a bruised thumb. Has anyone else wasted a ton of time because you thought you could wing it?

I had a buddy who tried to assemble a grill without looking at the manual once. He ended up with the propane tank attached backwards and his burgers tasted like gas for two weeks. He finally called me over and I found the diagram showing the valve goes on the other side.

Instructions wouldn't have helped anyway, those diagrams are always useless.

Nah the real issue is nobody bothers to check if the part numbers even match before diving in.
