Finally gave up paper towels for cloth ones after 6 months of trying
I made myself switch to a set of 20 flour sack towels from a local Target back in February, and I'm about 90% of the way there. Last week I had a big kitchen spill and reached for a paper towel without thinking, but caught myself at the last second. It feels dumb to be proud of not using something, but I figure every roll I don't buy is a tiny middle finger to the landfill. Has anyone else struggled with breaking a habit like this, or am I just weird about it?

Yeah honestly I used to think cloth towels were kind of a waste of time. I figured paper towels were just easier and not that big of a deal. But I finally switched last year and it clicked for me too. It's not about being weird, it's just realizing how much trash one person makes from something so small. Every time I grab a cloth one now it feels like a small win.

Hold up, @lilyp37, I gotta push back a little. Paper towels are still superior for me because I can toss them without guilt and they're always clean. Cloth towels just sit there getting gross after one use, and then you gotta wash them which uses water and energy anyway. Plus paper towels are way more sanitary for wiping up raw chicken juice or something messy in the kitchen. I'll keep my roll and save the guilt trip for something that actually matters lol.

The raw chicken thing used to get me too, but I just keep a stack of cheap flour sack towels for that and toss them in a bleach soak.
