Found out my city's landfill is basically a mountain now

I was looking at some old local maps online for a school project and saw the landfill site marked as a valley. Checked a current satellite image and the thing is literally a 150-foot hill now, covered in grass. It's been there since the 70s and I drive past it all the time, never knew. Kinda blew my mind that we just built a whole new landform from trash. Anyone else have a local fact that hit you like that?

Ngl that's just how nature works, trash or not it's still just dirt and grass now.

That bit about building on top of the past is so true. My old high school was built on what used to be a huge orchard, and they found old glass jars and tools when they dug the foundation for the new gym. Just a layer of dirt over someone else's whole life.

Ever notice how much of our world is just layers of old stuff we forgot about? We're always building right on top of the past without even seeing it. Makes you wonder what's under your own feet.

Honestly, I bet there's whole lost cities under some parking lots.
