Heard my neighbor June say something about the creek behind our houses that stuck with me
I was out back last week fixing a drain pipe and June mentioned the water levels in the creek have dropped by nearly 2 feet since she moved here in 2005. She said it used to flood after heavy rain but now it just trickles even after a storm. Has anyone else noticed big changes in local waterways like that and what do you think it means for the long haul?

So has June said anything about whether the town's been pulling more water from the creek for development upstream? Around here they've been building those new subdivisions and I wonder if they're tapping the same source... that would explain the drop way more than just regular drought patterns.

The guy who runs the gravel pit off County Road 12 told me they're pumping twice as much as last year for those new houses going in north of town. I saw the well permit applications posted at the town clerk's office back in March, three of them for that development. That's a lot of extra water coming out of the same little creek that feeds our stretch. Drought might be making it worse but the real problem feels like the town approving all that building without checking if the water's there first. Feels like we're getting the short end of the stick downstream.

Right @kelly638, that gravel pit guy's story matches exactly what I heard about the well permits for those new subdivisions.
