Hit 500 miles on my bike commuting this year and it messed with my head

I started biking to work back in March just to save on gas money. Yesterday my odometer hit 500 miles for the year. That's like biking from here in Austin to El Paso. I keep thinking about all the car trips I didn't take and how much CO2 I didn't dump into the air. But then I wonder if it even matters when corporations are doing way worse damage. Has anyone else hit a weird personal milestone that made you feel both proud and useless at the same time?

The real trick with this kind of milestone is that it changes your baseline, you know? Next year you'll probably hit 1000 miles without even thinking about it because your body just adapted to the routine. That quiet shift in what feels normal is way harder for corporations to undo than a single protest sign.

Used to think milestones were just personal brags, but you're right that shifting your baseline is the real win. Once your body expects that 500 miles, it stops being a choice and just becomes what you do. That kind of quiet rewiring is way harder to shake than any temporary spark of outrage.
