Just realized I was overwatering my houseplants for 2 years
I was watering my snake plant every 3 days like clockwork, then I noticed the leaves turning yellow and my neighbor said 'you know those things only need water once a month, right?' Has anyone else had a gardening habit that was totally backwards and took way too long to figure out?

Huh, that's a tough one but you're not alone. I kept waterboarding my succulents for months before learning they like to dry out completely between drinks. Turns out they're not tropical plants, they're desert plants. Who knew a little research could save a lot of yellow leaves and sad dirt.

Did I drown my first cactus because I thought "desert plant" meant it needed more water?

@daniel140 absolutely did that with my first cactus too - sometimes we just overthink the plant care.
