My brother said something about the heat that made me stop complaining
We were stuck in traffic in Phoenix last Tuesday, and I was moaning about my AC bill. He just looked at me and said, 'You know, our grandparents never even had to think about a day like this.' It wasn't a lecture, just a fact. It hit me that I'm not just dealing with weather, I'm living in a changed climate. How do you handle that feeling when it gets real?

My grandpa used to tell stories about Michigan winters that don't happen anymore.

Everything's shifting faster than we can keep up.

Honestly, just focusing on the small stuff helps... like noticing the birds that show up now that didn't before. It's weird, but naming the new things makes it feel less like losing everything. My old neighborhood maple gave up last spring, so I planted a serviceberry that actually likes this warmer wet. It's not fixing the big picture, but it gives you a spot to stand.

...and my grandma had a whole different set of birds she'd watch, ones I never see actually.
