My electric bill showed I used 900 kWh last month and it hit me hard
I got my bill from the utility company and just stared at the number. 900 kilowatt hours. I live alone in a small apartment in Phoenix, so that felt huge. I started adding it up in my head. The AC running all day in the heat, the old fridge, leaving my computer and chargers plugged in 24/7. It felt like a direct line from my wall outlet to the power plant and all the stuff that comes with that. I never really connected my comfort to the bigger picture before, but seeing that exact number made it real. I'm trying to unplug more things now and set the thermostat a few degrees higher, even if it's a little less comfy. Has anyone else had a moment like this with their own home energy use?

That exact number makes it real for everyone.

Right, because before they said 1,342, we all thought it was fake. But that extra two people? That's the detail that makes it hit home. Next they'll be telling us the exact number of paperclips used in the office. Really paints the picture.

Yeah, that exact number is a gut punch. I got a smart plug to see what my old fridge was really pulling, and it was insane. Unplugging the microwave and game console when not in use actually shaved a decent chunk off the next bill.
