My grandpa told me plastic would 'last forever' back in the 80s
He was right about the plastic Part but wrong about it being a good thing. We used to go fishing on the river near our town and he'd say that about every bottle we tossed. Now I see those same types of bottles washed up on the bank 40 years later, still perfectly intact. Has anyone else had an older relative say something that seemed fine at the time but now feels totally different?

Wait wait wait, you found a 90s soda bottle that still had the label readable? That's insane. I mean I knew plastic sticks around but I figured the sun would at least fade the printing off after a couple decades. Now I'm just picturing all those Coke bottles I chucked into the woods as a kid still sitting there with their logos perfectly visible like nothing happened. It honestly makes me feel kind of sick thinking about how casual we were about it. Makes you wonder what future generations are gonna think of us when they find our trash still looking brand new.

Honestly I thought older people were just being dramatic about litter until I saw a 90s soda bottle still readable on a beach last summer. It's wild how something that sounded like a joke is now just a sad fact.

Oh man, that's the part that gets me too. I mean, what's really wild is that those bottles are basically going to outlive us. Like, that 90s soda bottle will probably still be sitting there readable for another 200 years, long after the person who threw it away is forgotten. It's just weird to think about how we're creating these little permanent monuments to our own carelessness.
