My kid pointed out our trash bag was full of plastic every single day

He said 'Mom, why does our garbage look like a toy store?' and it hit me hard. We switched to buying bulk oats and beans, and now our bin is half empty on pickup day. Has anyone found a good way to cut down on those little plastic produce stickers?

Honestly that line about the garbage looking like a toy store is so real. I used to think all that packaging was just normal, you know, part of buying stuff. Seeing it through a kid's eyes totally flipped a switch for me. Tbh I haven't found a fix for the produce stickers either, they're the worst. I just try to buy more from the farmers market where they don't use them as much.

Read an article last week about those little produce stickers. Apparently some places are trying out laser etching codes right onto the skin of things like avocados and sweet potatoes. It washes off with the peel or just rubs away. Sounds like a good idea, but I guess it's expensive for stores to switch over. Makes you wonder why we ever needed sticky paper on an apple in the first place. Farmers market is still the best bet for avoiding it all.

Ugh, those stickers are the worst... I always end up picking at the glue left on my apples.

My local co-op uses twist ties on some produce, which at least peels off clean. Still feels like a weird amount of effort for a single bell pepper.
