PSA: My rain barrel setup cracked during the last freeze
It happened in early January when we hit 15 degrees here in Charlotte. I had to use a bunch of potable water from the hose for my garden instead, which just felt wasteful. Anyone have a good brand for a more freeze-resistant barrel?

Maybe you should just use the hose water.

Oh man, that's rough. I think spencer might have misread your post. You were trying to avoid using the hose because of the cost, right?

Yeah spencer_coleman is missing the point. That hose water costs money. Look into a thicker poly barrel maybe.

Wait, spencer_coleman said to just use the hose water? That's crazy. My water bill last summer was huge just from filling the kiddie pool twice a week. Imagine running a hose for hours to fill a whole barrel, that's like throwing money down the drain. A rain barrel is supposed to save you cash, not cost more. Joel's right, you gotta think about the actual water coming out of the tap.
