Realized I was washing my reusable bags wrong for over a year

I always just tossed my cloth grocery bags in the washing machine with hot water and detergent. Then my friend who works at a zero waste store said the heat actually breaks down the fibers faster and they shed microplastics if they have any synthetic blend. How do you all clean your reusable bags without wearing them out?

Hmm, and what if that person knew the whole time and just didn't bother to say anything? Sometimes people stay quiet because they don't want to deal with the fallout. Ever thought about that angle?
