Swapped my compost bin for a worm farm three years ago and never looked back

I used to just toss kitchen scraps into a rotating bin out back and wait forever, but after reading about methane from anaerobic decay I switched to red wigglers in a plastic tote under the sink. The worms process everything in like two weeks with no smell and I'm actually getting usable castings instead of slimy half-rotted goop. Has anyone else made the jump from cold composting to vermicompost and noticed a real difference in their waste footprint?

Built my own bin from scrap lumber and it cut my garbage output in half.

and honestly I gotta push back a little on that. I tried building my own compost bin from scrap wood too and it rotted out on me in less than two years. Plus the gaps let mice get in which was a nightmare. I get that you saved some money upfront but I think people overestimate how long those DIY bins last compared to just buying a decent plastic one. Did you have any problems with it falling apart after a season or two?

Oh honey, do we really need to get that worked up about a little methane from our kitchen scraps? I just toss mine in the bin and let nature do its thing. Seems like a lot of fuss to keep worms in your kitchen.
