The recycling bin at my gym changed how I sort trash at home

Last Tuesday I saw a sign on the gym's recycling bin that said 'plastic bags and wrappers go to landfill, even if they say recyclable'. That hit me because I've been tossing my protein bar wrappers in there for months. I looked it up and most municipal programs in Denver only take rigid plastics, so like 60% of what I thought was recycling was actually trash. Now I keep a small bin just for soft plastics and drive them to the grocery store drop-off once a month. Has anyone else had that moment where you realize your local rules are way stricter than you assumed?
