The soybean stat that flipped my whole beef habit in 48 hours

I grew up on a cattle ranch near Lubbock, so beef was just what we ate, no questions. Last week I read this piece from the World Resources Institute about how one pound of beef needs around 1,800 gallons of water, but a pound of soybeans needs like 200. That math hit me harder than any climate lecture ever did. I mean, I knew beef was resource heavy, but 9 times? So I tried swapping two dinners to tofu and lentils, and honestly it wasn't that bad. I'm not going full vegetarian or anything, but I'm down to maybe one beef meal a week now. Has anyone else found that one dumb number that actually changed their eating? What was yours?

Brown rice and beans three nights a week cut my grocery bill way down and I barely miss the steak.
