The week my town's well ran dry and I caught myself checking the faucet at 2am
Two summers back our well in Fairview dropped so low the water came out brown for three days straight, and the whole street was trading bottled water like it was gold. I remember standing in my kitchen at 2am just watching the tap drip, wondering if this was how it starts for everyone, not some big disaster moment but a slow quiet thing. The grocery store ran out of jugs by Tuesday and my neighbor Deb drove 40 minutes to her sister's place just to shower. What got me was how fast we all went back to normal once the rain came, like none of it happened. Does anyone else here catch themselves panicking over small stuff like this, or is it just me noticing it more now?
The brown water thing is actually pretty normal when a well gets low, it's just rust and sediment getting stirred up from the bottom, not the water itself going bad. Doesn't make it less scary though, especially when you're standing there at 2am watching it. What you're describing with the 2am faucet checking is real though, once you've been through a dry spell your brain just keeps watch for a while after. Fairview bouncing back fast makes sense too, rain refills the aquifer and everyone wants to forget it happened.
