Unpopular opinion: I'm sick of my family's excuses for not recycling properly.

We have separate bins for trash and recycling at home. My parents keep tossing everything in one bin because it's easier. I told them how bad it is for the planet, but they just laugh it off. This worries me a lot about what will happen if even families don't try. I lie awake at night scared of all that trash piling up.

It's wild how people can know something is broken and still not change. Like your parents see the two bins, they hear the reasons, but the habit is too strong. What do you think would actually get through to them? A scary documentary, seeing the local landfill, or just taking over the chore completely?

Honestly, I feel your pain, but recycling is NOT the magic fix people think. A LOT of that stuff just ends up in landfills anyway because sorting is a mess. Maybe focus on buying LESS plastic first? That made a bigger difference for my household. And try not to lose sleep over it, we're all doing our best with a broken system.

Working at a local recycling plant for a summer changed my view on this. I saw tons of plastic get tossed because of contamination, so I started avoiding single-use items. Your advice to focus on buying less is spot on and really shifted my habits.

Ever notice how many small choices get shrugged off as not a big deal? My neighbors do the same thing with recycling, and it feels like part of a wider "someone else will handle it" mindset. That attitude stacking up is what really keeps me up at night.
