Used to dump grass clippings in the woods behind my house, now I mulch mow everything.
Switched last spring after my neighbor pointed out the runoff was killing the stream plants down the hill, and the lawn actually looks greener now, anyone else change a small yard habit for a big reason?

Why spend the gas money when dumping clippings in the woods is free and works fine?

That "free" dumping can spread invasive plants and mess up the ecosystem.

I get what you're saying about saving money, piperbailey, but what seems free now might cost you later. Like @nancyj11 hinted, I've noticed this pattern in everyday life where we take the easy route without thinking about the long term mess it creates. Same way people toss old paint cans in the trash instead of the hazardous waste drop-off because it's too far. That "free" dumping in the woods can lead to problems that someone else or even you down the road has to deal with in a bigger way.
