Used to roll my eyes at folks buying carbon offsets for flights
I booked a trip to Phoenix last month and the airline offered offsets for like $12. I figured why not try it and actually read where the money goes. It goes to verified methane capture projects near dairy farms and that seems pretty legit compared to doing nothing. Anyone else look into what their offsets actually fund?

My $12 bought me peace of mind, even if it was mostly to make myself feel less guilty about flying cross-country. The methane capture projects do sound a lot better than just tossing money into a vague green fund.

You ever notice how we're all just buying little permission slips to feel okay about things we know are bad? Like paying $12 to fly without guilt is basically the same as buying free range eggs to feel better about eating chicken. @hall.joel you hit on something real with that peace of mind thing. We're all just looking for ways to patch over the gap between what we know is wrong and what we're gonna do anyway.
