Update: I used to think asking for help was a sign of weakness
I was talking to my friend Dave at his garage last week, and he was stuck trying to fix his truck's wiring. He just called up a guy he knew who does auto electric work, got a quick tip over the phone, and fixed it in ten minutes. I told him I would have spent hours trying to figure it out myself. He looked at me and said, 'Betty, you know how to ask for help at work with your crew. Why is it different for you?' That hit me hard. I realized I had this dumb rule in my head that asking for help in my personal life meant I was failing, but at my job, it's just teamwork. It's the same thing. Now I'm trying to be better about it. Has anyone else had to unlearn that kind of thinking?
