A stranger in the checkout line made me rethink my whole budgeting app
I was at the Kroger on Main Street last Thursday and this older guy behind me saw me scanning my receipt and just said 'you know that app is lying to you, right?' He pointed out that my budget app counts groceries as one thing but doesn't split out the sales tax or the little stuff like gum. I mean, I've used the same app for 2 years and never even thought about that, and now I'm wondering what else it's hiding. Anyone else had a random comment like that totally flip how you look at your money tracking?

Read once that most apps hide the fees in the fine print too...

Is it really about hiding though, or just people not reading? I've seen plenty of apps show the total price before you hit confirm, but folks skip past that part. Fees are usually in the breakdown right there on the checkout screen, not buried in some 40 page PDF. More apps charge upfront now than hide stuff, at least from what I've seen.
