Chose between a $400 used kayak and a $90 inflatable, and I think I got it wrong
Two summers back I stood in a parking lot in Traverse City trying to pick between a beat up 12 foot kayak for $400 and a $90 inflatable one from the hardware store. I went with the inflatable because it fit in my trunk and I could not figure out how to strap a hard hull to my little sedan. First trip out it paddled like a pool toy, took 20 minutes to blow up with a hand pump, and a seam started leaking by August. My buddy bought the hard one and is still using it three summers later. I keep telling myself I saved money, but I have bought two more inflatables since. Has anyone here actually made the cheap option work long term, or do I just eat the $400 next time?
