Found a weird trick for getting out stubborn carpet stains...

Spilled red wine on my beige rug last night and tried club soda plus baking soda left on for 20 minutes - it came right out without scrubbing. Has anyone else tested this combo on older set-in stains?

Club soda and baking soda saved me from having to explain to my mother-in-law how her favorite cream colored rug got mysteriously tinted rosé. My own trick is dumping salt on a fresh spill and panicking while it absorbs, which works about 30% of the time and the rest is a salt-crusted science experiment. Your method sounds way more reliable and less likely to make me question my life choices over a carpet spot.

I read once that white wine can neutralize red wine stains before you treat them.

My friend used salt on red wine and it just made crunchy pink cement.
