I finally realized I've been loading the dishwasher wrong for years

I was over at my sister's place in Portland last week and she laughed when she saw me put a plate in face down. She said that's only for the top rack and I've been doing it backwards forever. Turns out the manual for my Kenmore has a diagram I never looked at. I always just shoved stuff in however it fit and hoped for the best. Now my plates actually come out dry and not with little puddles on them. Has anyone else had a random family member point out something you've been doing wrong your whole life?

Man that's just one way to do it. My old dishwasher never worked right until I started loading everything face down on the bottom. Plates came out spotless no water left on them. Your sister might be wrong depends on the machine.

Oh gosh @diana617, I tried that once and flooded my whole kitchen! Total user error.

Gotta admit @diana617, I feel your pain on that old dishwasher trick. My first attempt at flipping the bottom rack ended with a soggy kitchen floor too. Thought I had it all figured out, but nope, the spray arm was blocked by a giant plate I wedged in wrong. Flooded right out the door seal, water everywhere. @diana617 is right though, I've got a newer machine now and load everything flat on the bottom and it works like a charm. Just takes one bad try to learn the hard way I guess.
