My $200 radar detector got me a ticket anyway on I-95 near Savannah

Picked up a Uniden on sale last winter thinking I was slick on the morning commute. It went off twice but the cop shot me with instant-on at 7:15 am, no warning at all. Anyone else find these things useless against troopers who wait for you to crest the hill?

My cousin bought one of those Unidens after watching too many YouTube videos, and he got popped on 16 near Dublin by a trooper hiding behind a billboard. The detector screamed for like half a second before the laser hit, which just gave him time to slam the brakes and still get pulled over. He spent the next month testing it against his garage door opener just to feel like it did something. The only thing those things are good for is spotting speed cameras in construction zones, and even then you're already in the trap. Now he just pays attention to where the semis suddenly slow down, that's his radar.

Heard about a buddy who had the exact same thing happen on 75 outside Macon. He was running a Valentine One, thinks he's untouchable, and the trooper just sat in the median with instant-on. The V1 didn't even blip until the cop already had his speed locked in. He said the cop actually laughed when he handed over the ticket. Now he just uses Waze and slows down when he sees the little cop icons ahead.
