My carpet cleaner sat unused for 8 months until I tried this one trick

I bought a Bissell carpet cleaner back in March and used it once, then tucked it away in the closet. Last week I pulled it out for a spot on the living room rug and realized I had been using way too much soap. The manual says to use two capfuls but I was dumping in half the bottle. After running it with half the detergent, the water came out clear instead of sudsy and the carpet dried in 3 hours instead of 12. Has anyone else found that using less product actually gives better results?

Totally been there with cleaning stuff, it's wild how easy it is to just assume more product equals better results. The manual actually knows what it's talking about I guess, haha. Glad you figured it out, that must've been frustrating dealing with that wet carpet for half a day.

Yeah, my friend Sarah did the exact same thing with her Bissell last year. I remember @the_elliot mentioned it in another thread, but she was dumping a ton of soap in there and wondering why her carpets stayed wet for two days straight. She finally read the manual after I told her to check it and cut back to the normal amount, and suddenly everything worked right. The carpet dried way faster and didn't leave that sticky residue you get when you overdo it. It's weird how we all just assume more product equals better cleaning, but it's usually the opposite.
