Overheard a guy at the coffee shop say he asks every single person he meets "what's the weirdest thing you've eaten"

I was sitting at Blue Bottle on 12th waiting for my latte and this guy was telling his friend about his question. He said he's been asking it for like 5 years now and he's gotten some wild answers. Cow tongue, century eggs, even some guy said he ate a live ant for a dare. The friend asked if people get annoyed and he said actually most people pause and think about it for a second. I tried it on my roommate that night and we ended up talking for an hour about travel stories. It made me realize how much a simple weird question can open people up. Has anyone else found a question that always gets a good conversation going?

Yeah honestly that fortune cookie guy sounds like a legend, wonder if he still follows the cookie wisdom. @the_simon's cat staring reminds me of this time I asked a friend that same weird food question and he just said "your cooking" without missing a beat, which killed the whole conversation.

Oh man, I tried asking my cat that question and she just stared at me like I was the weird one. My go-to is "what's the worst advice you actually followed" which somehow always ends up with someone admitting they let a friend cut their hair in a parking lot. I've gotten stories about bad tattoos, terrible financial decisions, and one guy who said he took life advice from a fortune cookie for a whole week.

Cannot believe someone actually bet a whole week on a cookie.
