Serious question, why does everyone think poison ivy is the only plant that causes a rash?

I've been ripping out invasive honeysuckle vines for 20 years now, and people always blame poison ivy when their arms break out. Last week a neighbor showed me a rash he got from cutting down a wild parsnip plant behind his garage. Has anyone else dealt with a plant rash that everyone swore was something else?

Read this morning that 73% of plant identification apps get it wrong on variegated species like those shiny leaf things. @lilya76 youre actually making a solid point though, because the app I tried last week called my pothos a philodendron and I had to correct it manually. Google lens is great but it really struggles with leaf patterns that overlap between species. Is there a reliable app you use that actually handles these look-alikes well?
