Showerthought: People keep asking for 'advice' but they really just want validation
I noticed this in a thread yesterday where someone asked how to negotiate a raise but argued with everyone who gave practical tips. They just wanted people to say their boss was mean. Am I the only one who sees this pattern?

But what if the person genuinely doesn't know what to do and just needs someone to tell them they're on the right track first? I've seen plenty of people who ask for advice and actually take it. My friend asked for career advice last month and ended up completely changing her approach based on what people said. The real problem might be that some people are bad at taking advice, not that everyone asking for it just wants validation. Sometimes you have to sort through the confirmation bias posts to find the ones who are actually looking for solutions.

The 6pm crowd asking for product recommendations already decided what they want lol.
