Found out most Austin tech startups skip market research entirely

I was reading a local business blog last night and saw a stat that 42% of new tech companies in Austin don't do any formal market research before launching. That seems crazy for something that costs thousands to get off the ground. Has anyone here seen a startup skip this step and still make it work?

Yeah @karen361 made me rethink this. Used to think skipping research was fine but nope.

I mean 42% is probably just the ones that admit it out loud, right? Feels like half of them just throw spaghetti at the wall and call it "agile development" or something. Maybe it's just me but I've seen a few of those no-research startups blow up big time, but it's usually more about luck than anything else. Kinda like playing poker with your eyes closed and somehow hitting a straight flush. But yeah, most of the ones I've seen end up pivoting 3 times in a year and then quietly folding.

And yeah @karen361 that poker analogy is spot on, most of them are just betting blind and praying.
