Hybrid office lease vs pure remote, we picked wrong for 6 months
Tbh our startup of 11 people signed a WeWork-style space in the Domain back in February. Thought being around other founders would spark something. Paid $3,200 a month for desks we used maybe 20% of the time. Last week we finally cut it and went fully remote. The kicker, our two best hires live in Round Rock and Buda and never came in anyway. Anyone else feel like Austin's office hype is just FOMO dressed up as culture?

Our crew did the same thing with a spot near the Seaholm, burned almost the exact same amount per month for six desks that stayed empty. What actually worked was forcing a two day in office schedule for the people who lived within 15 minutes, and the rest stayed remote, that cut our lease need in half before we bailed. The real win was spending that money on a twice a month team dinner instead, way more bonding than staring at each other over laptops.
