I just saw the average tech salary in Austin and wow

I was reading a report from the Austin Chamber of Commerce the other day, and it said the average tech salary here is over $140,000. That's way more than I thought, especially when you see the cost of housing. It's crazy to think that's the norm for a lot of people in this town now. I fix cars for a living and that number just doesn't feel real sometimes. Does that pay actually feel like enough with how expensive everything has gotten?

That big number gets a lot smaller fast, and then you're still trying to save for a house that costs three times what it did five years ago. That report is a bit misleading. It's an average, not the norm. Gets skewed by a few huge salaries at the top. A lot of tech workers, especially early in their career, are making way less than that. Median salary would tell a different story.

You might try tracking where every dollar actually goes for a month using something like a notebook or a basic spreadsheet. It helped me see where I was bleeding money without realizing it, and then I could cut back on the little things that added up quickly.
