I thought Austin's 'tech meetup scene' was just for people looking for jobs, but I was wrong

I went to a small meetup for cloud engineers at a coffee shop on South Lamar last month, mostly to kill time. I figured it would just be a bunch of people handing out resumes, but I ended up having a real talk with two other founders about scaling costs on AWS. One guy showed me his actual bill breakdown and how a simple change saved his startup over $800 a month. It was way more useful than I expected. Has anyone else found a specific meetup here that actually helped solve a real business problem?

Honestly, that sounds like a rare lucky break to me.

Wow, that's the real magic of those small meetups, right? I found a tiny group for people running online stores, and this woman walked us through her exact process for handling returns without losing money. She had spreadsheets and everything, showed how a simple FAQ page cut her support tickets in half. It was like free consulting.

Totally! Those little groups are gold mines. I've seen the same thing with local business owners sharing their actual numbers on job quotes. When someone shows you their real system, it cuts through all the generic advice. Makes you realize what actually works.

Our local devops group saved my team a ton by sharing their real monitoring setup.
