Just figured out why I kept losing deals to bigger agencies

Last month I lost a $40k contract to a Dallas firm, and I couldn't figure out why. Then I re-read their proposal and noticed they spent the first page talking about Austin culture and local connections. I realized I was just listing features and prices without any story. Has anyone else found that leads respond better when you talk about the city first?

Was the Dallas firm actually from Austin or just faking local knowledge?

3 out of 4 times I've seen some company claim they're "based out of Austin" it turned out they just had a PO box there. The rest of their operation was in Plano or somewhere up north. It's like people think throwing an Austin label on things makes them seem cooler or more legit. You see it with food trucks too, half of them say "locally sourced" but the ingredients come from the same Sysco truck as everyone else. A lot of this stuff is just marketing fluff to make you feel like you're getting something special.

Yeah it's all part of that same thing where people slap a trendy label on something to skip the hard work of actually being good. Feels like everything is just a costume nowadays.
