Lost a client over a missed email notification last Tuesday

I was at a coffee shop on South Congress and my phone auto-updated overnight which silenced my work notifications. By the time I saw the client's urgent message about rescheduling, they had already hired another cleaner. Has anyone else had tech updates mess with their business communication?

Yeah that's rough, maybe check if your phone has a 'do not disturb' schedule you didn't notice.

Oh man, @tara642 I think you might be onto something but not the whole story. Actually, I bet that "do not disturb" schedule is a red herring. What if your phone's alarm volume is somehow tied to some weird accessibility setting? My old phone had this thing where if I accidentally turned on "quiet hours" for bedtime mode, alarms would just buzz instead of ring. Check that your alarm sound isn't set to "none" individually for each alarm too. And double check if your phone automatically silenced it because of a calendar event or something, I've had random calendar invites mess with my phone's settings before. Just a heads up, this stuff is sneaky, took me weeks to figure out.

My old Pixel 3 did that exact same thing with calendar events muting alarms, but honestly I think that's a feature not a bug. If you have a meeting scheduled at 7am and your alarm goes off at 6:30, the phone might be trying to be smart and assume you're already awake for that meeting. I've had times where my phone completely ignored my 8am alarm because I had a 10am meeting in my calendar that said "optional" or something. The real trick is to either delete all calendar events or set your alarm for a time that doesn't overlap with any scheduled stuff. Not saying it's perfect but it worked for me after I started setting alarms for 30 minutes before any calendar block I had.

Rowan969 you might be onto something here. Actually a buddy of mine had this same issue with his Galaxy phone and it drove him crazy for months. He kept missing his 6am alarm because he had a 9am meeting in his calendar that said "work" or something. Turns out his phone was set to automatically silence alarms if he had any calendar event within two hours of the alarm time. He only figured it out when he accidentally deleted his whole calendar and the alarms started working again. He said it felt like the phone was trying to be too helpful and just made everything worse. After that he just started setting alarms for times that didn't overlap with anything scheduled, just like you said.
