Our client review tool crashed mid pitch last week
I was in the middle of a big presentation for a healthcare SaaS client last Tuesday. Their CEO was sitting right there in the conference room. My laptop froze completely when I tried to pull up our case study deck. The tool we use for client feedback just went black for a solid 3 minutes. I had to awkwardly pivot to talking from memory while my face turned red. Turns out the app had a memory leak from a bad update they pushed that morning. I ended up printing out all our key stats on paper and passing them around. Anyone else have a demo tool fail on them at the worst possible moment?

Can't agree with the crowd here, @jasonallen. A frozen screen during a pitch is a golden opportunity, not a disaster. You got a free 3 minutes where the client's attention snapped right to you instead of a slide deck. That's the kind of raw, unscripted moment that builds real trust - they saw you think on your feet and recover without the crutch of a tool. Calling out the memory leak on the spot could have even turned into a relatable "tech happens" moment that humanizes you. Printing stats was fine, but leaning into the freeze and talking straight would have been a stronger power move. Ever consider that the crash might have helped more than it hurt?

Yeah that "quick pivot to memory" panic is the absolute worst. Your brain just goes blank and you're sweating bullets hoping the CEO didn't notice the color drain from your face. Props for just printing the stats out though, that's actually a smart recovery move.

Totally agree with @jasonallen on that one, the memory freeze is brutal. But Thea's got a point too - a crash can actually buy you a second to gather your thoughts if you play it cool. I've had meetings where the tech going down forced everyone to actually talk to each other instead of staring at a screen, turned out way better than the planned pitch.
