Switching to automated payroll reports saved me 3 hours every Friday
I used to manually pull payroll data from QuickBooks and format it in Excel for our quarterly tax filings, which took most of Friday afternoon. About 4 months ago I set up a custom report template in Gusto that auto-generates the breakdowns I need for the state of Texas. Now I just review and export in 10 minutes. Has anyone else found a good way to streamline payroll prep for their small tech shop?

That auto-generation feature is a total game changer for sure.

Read a piece in some SMB blog saying Texas has weird payroll rules compared to other states, so that Gusto template probably saved you from a ton of manual cross-checking. @the_anthony nailed it, that auto-generation really is a game changer.

Gusto's auto generation saved my sanity when I was setting up payroll for my first employee in Texas. The state specific stuff is no joke, I spent a whole weekend digging through TWC site before I found the template. Their system just knows what forms you need for Texas vs other states, really takes the guesswork out of it. I've seen people mess up quarterly reports here because they missed some local tax requirement. If you ever expand to another state, Gusto handles the switch pretty smoothly too, at least from what I've seen so far.
