Three years ago at a South Congress meetup, I told a founder his idea was just a feature, not a product.

He raised a $2 million seed round last month, proving my gut check was completely wrong and making me question how I evaluate early-stage ideas here in Austin.

That "just a feature" line is the most dangerous thing we say in tech. I've seen it happen over and over where a simple tool someone dismissed grows into the main thing people actually want. We get caught up looking for a huge, complete product and miss the one piece that actually solves a real pain point. It's a good reminder that markets pick winners, not our gut feelings about what seems big enough.

True but sometimes a feature really is just a feature. It needs the whole product around it to make sense for most people.

Yeah, I read that exact thing in a blog post once.
