TIL I was wrong about hiring only from big-name Austin tech companies

For years, I only looked at resumes from people who worked at places like Dell or Oracle here in town. Then, about three months ago, I hired a developer from a small local startup that folded. She fixed a problem with our payment system in two days that my team had been stuck on for a week. It made me see I was missing a lot of good people by being so picky about where they came from. Has anyone else found great hires from outside the usual big company list?

Ever think the best people only come from big places? I used to, but then I hired someone from a failed project who solved a huge issue for us. It really shows good talent can come from anywhere.
