Used to think the Austin tech scene was all hype until I went to a meetup at Capital Factory
Heard a founder there talk about how they built their first prototype for under $500 using open source tools. Totally changed how I view starting something here. Anyone else have a moment that flipped their view on the local startup costs?

True... but @luna_wright, the real cost is your time.

Right?! It's wild how much you can do for almost nothing now. That kind of story makes it feel way more possible.

Found the same thing when I started my garden last year. Spent maybe fifty bucks on seeds and soil, but the hours were huge. That time investment is real, but watching things grow made it worth it. You learn so much by just doing it, even when it feels slow. The cheap start let me try without being scared to fail.

That fifty bucks is really just the cover charge, isn't it? You're right that the time investment sneaks up on you, but I'm curious about something. Did you find yourself spending more money later on things you didn't plan for? I had to buy trellises and a better watering can after just a few weeks, and then pest stuff showed up out of nowhere. It's like the cheap start hooks you in, but then you realize you need all these little extras to really succeed with it.
