A customer in Dayton told me something that changed how I handle estimates
This guy, Mark, brought in his Ford F-150 with a dented quarter panel. I gave him a quick verbal quote, but he asked me to write down every single step and part cost on a piece of paper from my notepad. He said, 'If I can't see the math, I can't trust the number.' Now I always write out a basic breakdown, even for small jobs. Does anyone else do something similar to build trust?

Can I ask how long that takes you?

My old shop used a 15 minute block system on the board for each dog. Honestly, seeing the time slots fill up made clients way less likely to rush us. It just made the whole day feel more fair for everyone.

Oh totally. I read a thing once that said people are way less likely to argue a price if they see how you got there, even if it's just a simple list. Makes sense to me.

Yeah, that's so true. I started doing a quick written list for my bigger grooming jobs, like a full haircut and deshedding treatment. Just breaking it into "bath, dry, haircut, extra brushing time" makes a huge difference. People seem to relax once they see the work spelled out, even if the total is the same. What do you put on your list for a simple repair?
