Found out my local paint supplier in Phoenix has been overcharging me by 30% for three years
I was digging through old invoices last night and realized the same gallon of PPG basecoat I paid $85 for back in 2021 is now $110 at my usual shop, but a friend two blocks away gets it for $77 from the same distributor, has anyone else noticed this kind of price gouging?

Well, maybe your friend gets the shop rate because he knows someone's cousin.

Oh yeah, is your guy related to someone who works there? I had the same thing happen with a lumber supplier near me. Been going to them for years, paying top dollar, then found out my neighbor gets 15% off just because his brother-in-law plays poker with the owner. It's like there's a secret handshake or something. Makes me wonder how many times I've been the sucker just because I didn't ask the right person.

Used to think it was all about just being friendly and loyal to a business, you know? Like if you go there enough you'd get a fair deal automatically. But this whole thing about secret discounts and who you know really opened my eyes. Now I wonder how many times I've been overcharged just because I didn't have the right connection. It's honestly kind of frustrating to realize it's not about being a good customer at all. Makes me feel a little dumb for not asking more questions or trying to find an in with someone there.
