Had a customer curse me out over a dent I didn't cause
I was finishing up a bumper repair on a 2018 Honda Civic in Austin last Tuesday when the owner walked in screaming that I made a new scratch on their hood. I showed him the work order photos from intake that proved the scratch was there before I touched it, but he still demanded a free respray. Has anyone else dealt with a customer accusing you of damage you know you didn't do?

Actually had a guy accuse me of stealing his sunglasses once when all I did was rotate his tires. He swore they were on the passenger seat but the car was messy as hell and they probably fell between the seats or something. I spent like 30 minutes looking through his trash with him before he found them in his jacket pocket. So awkward. But this scratch thing is worse because you literally have the proof and he still wants a free respray. Some people just don't want to accept they already had the damage and think they can bully you into free work.

Right? That's the thing, people will dig their heels in so hard even when the evidence is right there. @the_thea's story is proof it's never about the actual object, it's about them being wrong and not wanting to admit it. Like, I had a guy once swear I put a dent in his door, but I had him watch the security footage with me and it was clear as day from a parking lot hit from weeks ago. Still tried to argue the lighting was bad. Some folks just want to make you feel bad to get stuff for free, even when they know they're full of it. You can show them a signed affidavit and they'd say you forged it.
