Had to choose between a PPG and a Sherwin formula for a pearl red Nissan last month.
I went with PPG on that job but I still wonder if the Sherwin would have matched the factory flop better, has anyone had better luck with one over the other on late model Japanese paint jobs?

Sherwin actually owns the OEM formula for Nissan's pearl red on a lot of late models, so calling that out. If you're chasing factory flop on those cars, Sherwin's stock mix is closer to what came out of the plant. PPG can get you there too but you'll usually have to tweak the metallic and pearl a bit more to dial in the flop. Saw a few guys get burned on that exact red using PPG straight out of the can, Sherwin laid down spot on for them. Might be worth trying both tinters side by side if you're still second guessing it.

Hell yeah, you're SPOT ON about that Sherwin Nissan pearl red. I ran into the EXACT same thing last year on a 2019 Altima where the customer was losing his mind over the flop not matching. I had a quart of PPG mixed up and it looked like a completely different color in the sun, all washed out and flat. Swapped to the Sherwin stuff and it laid down damn near perfect first try, no tweaking the metallic at all. That factory flop is tricky to chase and Sherwin's got it figured out better than anyone right now.
